It’s always refreshing to hear nice guitar riffs over beats in Hip Hop. Far too often it’s mess of thick keyboard pads, over produced 808’s and every “cool” trick the producer can think of. In many cases, it devalues the song. “Counting Sins” is an example of how to do it right.
This is a simple, straight forward production that puts the emphasis on the lyrics and the story. We love how this appears to be a reflection of a single event - a snapshot of something that happened that can trigger a flood of emotions and thoughts. We’ve all had those moments where one image or one action can flood the brain, causing confusion to those around us as we grapple with what we’ve just seen and experienced.
Another reason why the track stands out is that at just over two minutes, it’s perfectly timed. You don’t need to follow the “3 minute rule” - do what the song asks of you to do - put the song first. He also uses this tactic for the track “Antisocial,” “Toxic Love From a Misfit,” and others.
There’s a lot of love about 6VIB3Z’s delivery and rhyme scheme. No wonder he’s got over 100,000 monthly listeners.
